The modern world is great for a variety of reasons. One of them, of course, is that we have automobiles! What’s more, gone are the days of wondering how to efficiently and safely get from point A to point B. In part, we have Advanced Driver Assistance Systems to thank for this. But what exactly is ADAS calibration, and why is calibration important?

Well, ADAS is what can be described as a group, or family, of safety features. These systems go in effect through sensors that are located on different points of your vehicle. These sensors capture valuable information which is then transmitted to different systems. As such, the main goal of ADAS is to prevent or reduce the negative impact of unfortunate events, by alerting the driver. These alerts can come in various forms, but overall, ADAS aids and assists in avoiding collisions, through the following applications:

  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Collision Warning
  • Blind Spot Monitoring
  • Park Assist
  • Automatic Cruise Control
  • Pedestrian Protection
  • Headlights Control

ADAS Calibration for Your Windshield

If your car has a forward-facing camera that’s mounted anywhere near your windshield, then you must ensure that it’s in proper working order. Overlooking such aspects can lead to serious safety risks. This is because sensors have to be displaced only by a tiny amount to stop functioning as intended.

In case of imminent danger, you naturally need early warnings, so that you may take proper action. However, avoiding life-threatening situations can prove to be quite difficult if signals are late, or read incorrectly by your systems. This is why it’s imperative to calibrate a windshield.

Drivers aren’t the only ones at risk in these scenarios, as passengers and pedestrians can equally be endangered. So, don’t tempt fate by ignoring vital procedures. Instead, call us at (480) 525-6554, and we’ll offer you top notch windshield calibration services, anywhere in Metro Phoenix! What’s more, if you need a windshield repair or a windshield replacement to go along with the sensor calibration, it’s not an issue! In fact, we can handle the glass procedures procedures for $0 Out-of-Pocket cost, provided you have full coverage car glass insurance.

The 2 Types of ADAS Calibration

We’ve established why you must make sure that your vehicle’s camera supported ADAS is always ready to go. Another important aspect to take into account is that the exact type of recalibration depends on your automobile. There are only two of them — Static ADAS Calibration, and Dynamic ADAS Calibration, and at ProLite, we have trusted experts for both.

Static calibration requires you to drive over to a certified shop. This is because the process necessitates the use of specialized equipment in an enclosed environment. However, since you’d have to drive over anyway, car glass technicians could also handle any auto glass repair & replacement.

Dynamic calibration is more “user-friendly” though! This type of procedure can be done remotely, by inserting a hand-held unit into your car. Once attached, the vehicle is driven at an OEM indicated speed, over a certain distance. After the test, the sensors are properly calibrated.

Wrapping It Up

ADAS is a technology designed to make your driving experience smoother and safer. However, in order for it to work as intended, you need to make sure that the according sensors are calibrated. The process itself can be either static or dynamic. This differs depending on your vehicle’s make and requirements.

At ProLite, we know how crucial it is to calibrate a windshield the right way. That’s why you should call us anytime to book an appointment for sensor re-calibration or auto glass repairs & replacements!
