Mesa anchors the East Valley about 15 miles east of downtown Phoenix, and by land area it’s the biggest suburban city in the Valley, bordering Tempe, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Chandler, and Apache Junction. Public education runs through Mesa Public Schools, the largest district in Arizona, serving more than 55,000 students across six comprehensive high schools including Mesa, Westwood, and Mountain View, with parts of southeast Mesa served by Gilbert Public Schools and Queen Creek Unified.

Mesa is the only Cactus League city with two separate MLB spring training facilities: Sloan Park, built for the Chicago Cubs and nicknamed “Wrigley West,” and Hohokam Stadium, home to the Athletics’ spring training. Downtown, the Mesa Arts Center anchors a revitalized Main Street corridor with four theaters, art galleries, museums, and light rail access, making it the largest multidisciplinary arts complex in Arizona.

In the southeast, the former Williams Air Force Base has become the Eastmark master-planned community and the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport corridor, now a major hub for aerospace, semiconductor, and data center development, with facilities for companies like Apple, Meta, and Google.
